In our house we anxiously await Christmas morning for the gifts, the family time and the memories. But most, of all our favorite breakfast casserole. As I said in my Christmas traditions post this is one of our traditions, one that my husband would love for me to make monthly. If I’m being honest there is a lot in this casserole so it’s probably not super healthy, but extremely delicious. So if you’ve been looking for a new breakfast meal here’s one for your recipe book.
1 LB Sausage
10 Slices Bread (remove crust)
Butter at room temperature
2-3 cups grated Cheddar Cheese
1 Quart Half and Half
2 tsp Salt
2 tsp Dry Mustard
1 LB Bacon ( I added this so it s optional but SO good)
Brown sausage and bacon (together or separate is up to you). Drain on a paper towel. Butter a 9X13 pan. Spread butter evenly over 6 slices of bread. Place in pan with buttered side facing down.
Add a layer of meat and spread it evenly. Add a layer of cheese.
Add a layer of buttered bread with buttered side facing up.
Mix together the milk, eggs dry mustard and salt.
Pour milk mixture over the bread and allow to stand overnight in the fridge.
Next day bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Remove from oven and let stand for 20-30 minutes before serving. As I am making this Christmas morning I will have to post my after baking picture later. So stayed tuned.
We hope that your Holiday season is filled with amazing memories and wonderful food. May we all remember why we celebrate this wonderful time of year. From our home to yours-Merry Christmas.
