Well jabbers, it’s another Triple Tuesday for you all and we’re so excited to share with you what we’ve been working on the last few days. Our three projects are definitely ones anybody could make and don’t take a ton of time.

The inspiration behind our “sew” spooky Halloween pillows came from Misty who ran across an ADORABLE ghost pillow over on Tatertots & Jello (if you aren’t following her, you should. I promise. You won’t be disappointed). This got us thinking. Originally we thought we’d each make a ghost pillow. However, there are only so many ghost shapes and faces that we knew it would become pretty boring reading through the same project three times so we decided to pick a Halloween character and run with it. Marie picked a witch, Michelle picked a ghost and Misty decided on a skull.

So there you have it. The great thing about these projects is you can make them your own. You don’t have to follow EXACTLY how we do it. Find your inner creativity and make the pillow fit your style and personality. That’s the great thing about crafts. All the details on how we made our Halloween pillows are found below. For more than a year now, my husband and I have tried to follow a budget using Dave Ramsey’s Envelope System. For those of you who haven’t heard of the envelope system before, it’s pretty simple (his website goes into a lot more detail) but basically you sit down and figure out your expenses — groceries, entertainment, gas, etc. — and then decide on how much money from each paycheck you want to pull for each of those expenses. This is where the envelopes come in. After you’ve figured out how much money you’re going to pull, put that amount in envelope marked accordingly. I also keep a coupon envelope just so I can have them all in once place and easy to grab.

For us, groceries and entertainment are our bigger expenses so every two weeks I pull the following (keep in mind, we’re a family of four so of course the amount would change depending on your family’s needs):

Groceries: $200
Entertainment: $40

If your envelope runs out of money before the next paycheck, in no way are you suppose to take money from another envelop or pull more. You HAVE to wait until your next paycheck. We have definitely had our weeks where sticking to the budget hasn’t been easy and we’ve had to adjust our amount a few times but we’ve noticed we’ve done a lot better with our money since we started using envelopes. A couple years ago I made a few of these cute little Grab-and-Go Car Mats and they were a BIG hit (if I do say so myself). This cute little mat is perfect for entertaining little ones at a restaurant, a doctor appointment, at church, or anywhere really!

Car Mat Collage 1

I made this one specifically for my boys who LOVE tractors, snowmobiles and dirt bikes. So this one was different from your normal car one. I even added a few “jumps” for the dirt bike and snowmobile, BIG HIT. Continue reading

Today, I decided I was going to work on adding some more decor to my movie room. Since we made our DIY projector screen, we have spent a lot of time hanging out watching movies…of course. The big thing is, I don’t want to spend a whole lot of money in the process.

Have you ever seen lace cardstock? It’s pretty cool stuff. I’ve just never had anything to use it with. Until today! I actually found a bunch of really cool lace cardstock at our local Craft Warehouse store and it just so happened, they had this super cute ticket paper and I decided it would be perfect for our movie room. Well, I’m sure this comes with mixed emotions but school will be starting soon (in some areas it already has) but the truth is, it’s coming whether or not we want it to. When I was trying to figure out what to do for my blog post this week, I decided it would be fun to come up with a back-to-school-themed post. I wanted to make something that maybe not a lot of people have, something unique and cute. Hence my idea for a “Back to School” bunting printable was born. Thank goodness Marie came to visit this week because she helped me figure out exactly what I needed to do to make it look cute. Second opinions are always nice, right? Misty even offered her opinion after I told her what I was working on. Her response, “How dare you make something back to school related.” Haha! Yep, I’m pretty evil.

I’ve been pretty excited to share this post with you because I LOVE how this project turned out. It’s not only made our front porch (remember, I’m obsessed) look completely different but it’s added some color that was desperately needed.

I’m sure you’re wondering, “Painting vinyl flooring? That seems strange.” Here’s the deal, about a month ago while on the lookout for an area rug that was nearly indestructible because of kiddos and a dog, I ran across Beth’s post over at Sawdust and Embryos and instantly became intrigued. Her post, DIY Dining Room Area Rug {Painted Linoleum}, is a step-by-step tutorial on – yep you guessed it – taking vinyl flooring and painting it to look like a rug. It definitely seemed like the solution to my problem. And I loved how hers turned out. Without a doubt, I had to give it a try but I had needed to find a remnant first.

Low and behold, a few weeks later, while visiting my in-laws they just happened to have a remnant from redoing their laundry room. They didn’t need it for anything else so I became the proud owner of a vinyl floor remnant. Who knew something like that could be so exciting. 🙂 The downside, it wasn’t big enough to use in my dining room like I had hoped but I knew I HAD to give this painted vinyl a try.

So I think I found my new obsession…making our front porch more welcoming and cute. It’s definitely a work in progress but hopefully by the end of the summer I’ll have it exactly how I want it only to put it all away for the winter. Crap! That’s how I roll sometimes, I guess. I actually have my hands in a few projects this week but this has got to be the quickest and easiest one of them all. And to say I love how it turned out is an understatement.

A few years ago, we bought a Boise State flag (Go Broncos!) and flag holder for daddy for Father’s Day however, the flag has been looking pretty sad lately. I’ve been on the look out for something more inviting and um, less embarrassing for several weeks now. So last week, while I was out and about, I stopped in at Hobby Lobby (because you know I LOVE that place) and I found this adorable “Hello” tote bag.

I had this idea a while back when I was making my nephew’s t-shirt quilt. His older brother was getting married and I thought, “Wouldn’t it be FUN to make an apron for his fiancé out of one of his old jerseys?!” If anyone knows me they know I LOVE to give sentimental gifts so I thought this one was brilliant. When I sat down to do it (extremely last minute!) I was pleasantly surprised with how quick and easy it was. Can I just say I LOVE it when a project goes smoothly. Almost unheard of, right? Well it was my lucky day! If you’ve got an old jersey lying around grab it and lets get started! Continue reading

Today we have a special treat for everyone. We decided to start a new series called “Triple Tuesday!” Simply put, we each do the same project but come up with three different ways of doing it.

This was really fun for us! It was kind of coincidental. One day, Misty sent a picture of a filing cabinet she just bought and wanted to refinish. Ironically, Michelle had just bought one the week before…with the hopes of refinishing it as well. Then the next day, while talking to Marie about the fact that we each had cabinet we were going to redo, she said she had one TOO and wanting to do the same thing. No Way! Really? We were thinking the same thing practically at the same time? We really are sisters!

We hope you enjoy this new series as much as we enjoy doing them!

For years – I’d say more than five – we’ve talked about buying a projector and last year we FINALLY took the plunge and bought a beauty. One that fits our needs and works perfect for our lifestyle. Of course my husband is the tech-savvy one of the bunch so he did all the research and so far we’ve been happy with our Epson VS230 projector.

It had great reviews, was reasonably priced and compact enough to travel with. We originally bought it for when we go camping in our pop-up trailer. Yes, you heard me right. We watch movies in our pop-up! I’ll have to share how we do this in a future post. It’s genius, if I do say so myself. 🙂 It’s been AWESOME and definitely a memory-maker! Continue reading
