Ok so I going to share a weakness of mine. It’s a horrible one. If you are a health food critic you should stop reading now. I love bread!! It doesn’t matter if it’s store-bought or homemade, it’s all divine. I blame it on my dad really. He has the same problem. I remember when I was little he would get off work and grab 5 or 6 slices of white bread and eat them for a snack, and if I’m honest it is my same go-to snack now. I know it’s both horrible and delicious.  So when I found this recipe and tried it and realized that it went amazingly with my crock pot chicken fettuccine alfredo I was sold (don’t worry I will be sharing this recipe in the future). Better yet, I have cooked it for family and friends and they all rant and rave about how delicious they are.

Being a mom of 6 kids there are those days when it’s 3 o’clock in the afternoon and I still have no idea what’s for dinner. What sounds good? Spaghetti, but I’m not running to the store for garlic bread but within an hour these yummy breadsticks are ready and the best part is my kids will eat them and not complain about the green beans that are also on their plates. They are easy, amazing and I always have the ingredients on hand.

Quick and Easy Breadsticks

Prep time: 1 1/2 hour
Bake time: 12 mins.

4 tsp active dry yeast
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups warm water
3 TBS canola oil
1 egg
1 tsp salt
5 cups flour
1 stick butter
Garlic salt

Begin by placing yeast, sugar and warm water in mixing bowl, the sugar will help the yeast to activate faster. Wait about 5 minutes and then add the oil, egg, salt, and flour to the yeast mixture. Knead for 5 minutes. Clean out the bowl and place oil in it and put the dough back in the bowl and cover and let rise for 45 minutes to an hour. Place half of butter in a rimmed cookie sheet and place in oven and preheat to 400.  Roll dough out on floured surface and cut into 24 strips. I like to use a pizza cutter and then cut my 24 strips in half. Each strip will be folded in half and twisted. Once the butter on the cookie sheet has melted, remove it from the oven and place twisted dough on cookie sheet. Microwave the remaining half cube of butter until melted and then brush over the tops of the twisted breadsticks. Sprinkle with the garlic salt and parsley. I actually have garlic salt with parsley in it that I use that you can see in the picture of ingredients. Bake them in the oven for 12 minutes or until golden brown.
